AirAsia, renowned low-cost airline, has announced the launch of a new route connecting Ahmedabad, India, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Commencing its flights on 1 May 2024, marks AirAsia’s eleventh route from India and the third new route introduced in 2024. The venture also serves as AirAsia’s inaugural connection to the state of Gujarat from Malaysia, strengthening its presence in South Asia.

The bustling city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, attracts travellers from India with its tropical climate and a diverse array of local cuisine. The city serves as a gateway to explore neighboring destinations and renowned Malaysian islands.

Bo Lingam, Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Group, expressed enthusiasm about the new venture, especially in light of the Indian government’s commendable initiative for visa-free entry into Malaysia for Indian nationals. He highlighted Kuala Lumpur’s appeal to adventure seekers, globe-trotters, and food enthusiasts. Lingam emphasised AirAsia’s commitment to enhancing affordable connectivity between Malaysia and India, leveraging the untapped tourism potential in both countries.

AirAsia currently operates an extensive network of routes directly connecting India to Malaysia from cities such as Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

The airline also offers medium-haul flights to New Delhi and Amritsar via its affiliate airline, AirAsia X. In February 2024, AirAsia is set to commence flights from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, followed by Jaipur in April and Ahmedabad in May. The airline provides convenient Fly-Thru options, allowing guests to utilize Kuala Lumpur as a connecting hub to access AirAsia’s vast network of more than 130 destinations in 22 countries.

Thomas Cook & SOTC announce exclusive charter flights to Bhutan

Responding to the travel needs of Southern India, the charter flights from Bengaluru will serve as a gateway, offering direct and exclusive access to Bhutan. With the southern region already contributing over 45 per cent to the companies’ business in Bhutan, this initiative aims to bridge the gap created by the lack of direct air connectivity.
