Air India has confirmed an order for 100 additional Airbus aircraft, consisting of 10 widebody A350 and 90 narrowbody A320 Family models, including the A321neo. This latest order builds on the 470 aircraft order placed in 2023 with Airbus and Boeing.

This new order brings Air India’s total Airbus order count to 350, with 40 A350s and 210 A320 Family aircraft ordered last year. Additionally, Air India has selected Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) to maintain its A350 fleet, ensuring operational reliability through engineering services and on-site stock in Delhi.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India, highlighted the strategic intent behind the order: “With India’s passenger growth outpacing the rest of the world and infrastructure rapidly improving, these 100 additional aircraft will support our mission to become a world-class global airline.”

Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, added: “I’m pleased to see Air India reaffirm its trust in Airbus with this additional order. We remain committed to supporting the airline’s Vihaan.AI transformation plan under Tata’s leadership.”

Vietjet expands fleet with 111th aircraft, plans for further growth

Vietjet has added an Airbus A321neo ACF to its fleet, emphasising eco-friendly and efficient air travel. With plans to acquire more aircraft and wet-lease additional capacity, the airline aims to meet high travel demands during peak seasons and continue its expansion into global markets.

Currently, Air India has 344 new Airbus aircraft expected, having already received six A350s. In 2023, the airline also placed orders for 220 aircraft with Boeing, of which 185 remain to be delivered.Air India operates the Airbus A350 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines on key routes like Delhi-London and Delhi-New York, offering superior fuel-efficiency and passenger comfort. The A320 Family, equipped with CFM LEAP 1-A engines, underpins Air India’s domestic and short-haul operations.
